Production Log - 5
Production Log - 5
This week my group and I have continued working on editing
our individual films this is too make us become more independent and edit in
our own different unique styles. This week my group and I have been discussing
dates and times of when to meet to do our filming because we are going to be
improving our work to add more close up shots and more angles this is too get
our work to a higher standard because we are capable of getting a good grade.
Also this week we had decided that we needed to film however, our schedules
have changed since some things have come up meaning that we will have to film
next week so that we can finally get our film completed to a good standard that
hopefully we will all see is better so the three of us can be proud of
everything that we have done. Our next filming day is the 21st of
January 2016 at 3:00pm since that is when everyone else is free to film.
Something that my group and I need to start working on is that we have to
consider everyone else’s schedules and we have to make sacrifices to put the
effort in and try to get the filming done. Also when we film on Thursday
everyone has to get work done since were getting to the end of this unit and haven’t
exactly haven’t got a lot of time anymore and soon enough were going to be
starting another unit meaning that we have to finish as soon as possible.

Unit 1 - A1 - Legal Issues and Regulation
Legal Issues
The Advertising Standards Authority (ASA) have banned Bookmaker Paddy Power advert as it had it's controversial Oscar Pistorious advert. It had received a record of 5,525 and was the most complained about advert. The ASA told Paddy Power to remove the advert as it this time Oscar Pistorious was under investigation by the police on his girlfriends Murder. As this advert got a lot of complaints they offered to give money back if he walked for the people who were betting on the outcome for the murder trial. It was taken off from TV because they said that "it would cause offence".
The British Board of Film classification (BBFC) changed the age rating for Attack the Block from a 12A to a 15 because the amount of violence, weapons and swearing that was used. Also the characters used fireworks as weapons so they had no choice but to put the age rating up to older teens and young adults. as this film features young children using dangerous firework play. So the BBFC came up with idea that this worked better for older teens.
Office of communication also known as (OFCOM) banned an advert for the drink Irn Bru which showed a woman telling her loved ones that she used to be a man and this was taken off TV since it may have give the impression of them making fun of transsexual people. Complaints from 17 viewers, and some were actually transsexuals and that the campaigned was discriminatory. Viewers has said that it was like transsexuals were being made a joke of.
Broadcasting, Entertainment, Cinematography and Theater Union also known as BECTU is a trade union based in the UK. On average it has about 25,000 members who are in that line of work of broadcasting, entertainment, film, theater and leisure.
Some things that may arise in the TV or Film production are:

- Clips, Stock Footage, Tapes & Images
- Font, Text & Designs
- Famous Works & People
- Script Clearances
Some of the things that may arise in my production is products, Logos and Brand names, and also Font, text and design. This could be because of the things the character may wear for example if somebody was wearing a Nike tracksuit then we would need clearance from the company Nike for us to wear their product in our film. People might think that this is free advertisement but if the character is doing something illegal for example people wont want to go and buy that tracksuit.

- Holland Roden
- Shelley Henning’s
- Arden Cho
- Dylan Sprayberry
- Tyler Hoechlin
Actors and actresses that get the part of television show must audition for the roles they want and if they get the part they must make themselves available, also they have the responsibility of learning their lines. Actor should be very familiar with the stage and the set and know where entrances and exits are, where backstage access areas are where costumes and props are kept before rehearsals. Actors are responsible for attending rehearsals. Failure to fulfill their responsibilities means being asked to leave the show.
Executive producers
- Jeff Davis
- Russell Mulcahy
- Marty Adelstien
- Rene Echevarria
- Tony Distanto
- Liz Gateley
- Joseph P. Genier
Executive Producers are responsible for the overall quality control of the production. They are also associated with legal issues for example copyrights and Royalties. An Executive Producer also generally contributes to the film's budget without this extra money then the program won’t be able to go ahead therefore the executive producers usually puts money in to the production and they may or may not work on set.
Co Executive Producers
- Tim Andrew
- Ian Stokes
- Karen Gorodetzky
Co Executive producers are two or more working producers who perform jointly or cumulatively all of the producer functions as a team or group. Co executive producers usually assist the executive producers and help to make their lives a little easier. Second in position to executive producer who attends writing team meetings.
Producers:
- Eric Wallace
- Blaine Williams
Producers make the big decisions for television shows or movie, such as choosing the director and other lead players for the production project. They are responsible for making the business- and budget-related decisions of the project. The producer is ultimately responsible for shaping the project. A producer can also be the writer of the episode, or a former executive producer who still writes for the show. Since producer credits are used for individual episodes, they often require approval from the Writers Guild of America.
Co Producers
- Damon Jackson
- Tyler Posey
Co producers usually have less responsibility then the producer of the TV programme. They help out the producers of the show for opinions on what may work and may not work. They also assist with the production. Writers on the show who may not have written the episode, but contributed significantly through table reads or revisions. They usually assist the producers of the show by giving a helping hand.
Production designer
- Thomas William Hallbauer
Production designers usually work with the director and producer, the product designer also designs the set and the way it looks for example because this TV programme is set in the 21st century there may be a MacBook laptop in the background or because its an American television show so there might be sports gear like for example because this specific show their school sport is lacrosse so their might be a lacrosse jersey in the background of the set. Before everything is put on set usually the production team draws up a sketch of what the set would look like and to try things out.
Casting
- Wendy O’Brien C.S.A
- Jeffrey Gafner
The person that usually does the casting must understand the character that they are holding auditions for, as they need to visualize the person auditioning playing that actual character and if they are good enough they would inform that they got the part. Sometimes if somebody is auditioning for one part they may get anther part because the casting think they would suit a different role. For example Dylan O’Brien auditioned for Scott McCall in this specific however he got the role for Stiles Stilinski because he fitted the role as there is so much humour for his character which relates to him in real life.

Weekly production log: 4
This week and my group have started to edit our footage individually and then when it comes to showing our class we will make the decision of showing the best one out of the three. What i have learnt is how to use final cut pro and now ive started to get the hang of it, it makes t alot quicker to edit my work. The footage of our work could be improved with a few little minor details for example changing some shot types however this was our first time filming therefore we will know what we have to change and improve for next time. Also my group i think has started to work well as a team as we have started getting use to working with each other and even though we are working indivually on the footage we all still help each other out when someone isn't sure on what they could do with a scene. What i have also learnt is that there are a variety of different sounds that can be used and luckily im able to insert them onto my footage and it goes together really well also we can also crop some scenes were we didnt want shown which meant it was made better for the final product. My group and i may have to finish some filming to get the best result for example changing the shots meaning having to stay after school to finish of filming to make sure that we get the grade that we feel that we deserve.

The TV show 'Friends' final series was suppose to run for 24 episodes but due to Jennifer Aniston shooting several films they had to cut it down to 18 episodes for that series therefore she didn't stick to her production schedule since she had other commitments with movies that were in the process of making.

Romance
In romance movies for example The Notebook the usual conventions that you would see appear during a romance movie are the main characters being a boy and a girl and then automatically when know that those two characters are going to fall in love, which the audience may get some personal identification with the characters since it would be aimed at boyfriends and girlfriends or married couples since they could be in similar situation as those characters. Some other conventions that the audience would expect to see during this movie and other romance movies are other things like chocolates and flowers because those are the types of gifts that you would give to someone you are in a relationship with so again the audience may get some personal identification.
Action
In the film Fast and Furious there are conventions that are Mise en scene for example the locations are usually in similar places for example Los Angeles, London, Rome etc, they like to change locations so that it doesn't look boring and that they expand their choice of film location.
Comedy
In comedy films like The Inbetweeners movie, they always seem to have an unintelligent character which is the one that makes the audience laugh the most and then sometimes they have an opposite to that character to show the differences of the two characters and may make the audience wonder how those characters ever became friends. Another convention that is usually seen in this film is that they do unintelligent things to make people which makes people continue watching and is what makes the film so humours. Period Drama

Weekly production log 3
Weekly Production Log
This week my group and I are starting to film. We will be
filming in the drama after school in our spare time and hopefully if everyone
was to work well and there were no distraction then we could finish the filming
within that time then all that needs to be done is editing and adding sounds to
match that specific scene.
Also one of my peers in my group is easily distracted so
it's much more difficult to keep him on track and make sure that he's actually
doing his work that he needs to do and also do my job which is direct the film
while also starring in the movie.
My group has not created a script but we have all decided to
go with the flow and just come up with it on the spot since it would take more
time for the actors and actresses to learn their lines whereas this way we can
just get straight in to it.
Another thing that my group hasn’t achieved this week is
sticking to our production schedule because since the classroom isn’t available
to use anymore we have to work around the schedule of the drama room which
means we have had to change things and mainly after school is when we can all
meet since all of our schedules and the actors and actresses schedules are not
working out.
Since we are on the last week before our Christmas holiday our
deadline is coming really close and no work for filming will get done since everyone
would like to spend Christmas stress free so everything must get done this week
in order for that to happen.

Unit 22 Pitch Evaluation and Link
Pitch Evaluation
Strengths
Is that we all had something to say and do some of us more than others but we still worked hard on out plot and took time to think about the things we had instead of what we didn't have and how we can use those resources to make our film good. Another strength was that we each had individual jobs for example i had the job of thinking of the types of themes that were linked in each of the films that i watched. Afsana job was to think about the plot and ow we could make it better for example a better ending to our original one. Selim's job was to think about what the characters would wear and have as props in the actual film. Also Selim also offered to use the camera and film the production which was another one of our strengths since we was already looking ahead of who's doing what job and how.
Another strength was that we all had ideas for a plot and sort of collaborated them all together to make it even better so we never actually used our own individual plots we mixed them together to make it even better to any of the plots that we had come up with before.
Also another strength that we had was that we listened to each others ideas and let everyone talk freely. Another strength that we had was that we all seemed to like the fact we were all working together and it was easier to get our ideas across.
Weaknesses
The weaknesses that we faced as group that not everyone pulled their weight in the actual making of the presentation. Also in the feedback that we got we needed to be more detailed in our work, for example we could have mentioned the moral of the story which is one of the things that we forgot to mention. Another weakness that my group faced was that we didn't go though each slide in the depth that we could have because i think we were all so nervous that we tried to rush it, so for improvement we could try to be more confident in the presentation.
Another one of our weaknesses is that it took us longer to come up with ideas for our short film for example the plot, the title which is still a working progress, and locations that we will be filming in and the people that we will be casting which is also still a working progress. Also what people realized from our pitch is that one of the people in our group wasn't saying as much and didn't participate with pitching the idea. Also another weakness that happened was that we were all nervous especially me when we was going in front of everyone this may be because our presentation wasn't as strong as some of the others. Since we didn't really talk about the audience in more depth and we told the audience what our influences are but we didn't really talk about the movies in depth and what there about exactly.

Weekly production log week 2
Production Log 2
When meeting with my group today we had discussed all the changes that we have made to our short film which was that we have changed the location of our film since the storage cupboard in media room that we were planning to use is going to be knocked down in a very small amount of time so we had no choice but to move the location to the drama room in our school which might not be as good but if we were to change a few things to our story hopefully it will be very successful.
Another change that we had to make was the actors who were starring in our film which the killer was going to be played by Ibrahim and now due to Ibrahim playing in other people's films it be more time consuming for him so we allocated another actor which is Imran Hussein who we recently found out can act and can do it really well for that character.
Also another change that we made was the ending of the story line which was suppose to be the killer just killing the girl and thats the end but now we added an extra scene were the killer cleans off the blood which will give people the effect of how badly he killed her and how much it hurt the girl because of the amount of blood that got everywhere on his clothes and hands and on the floor so we came to the conclusion that this would be a better ending.
